Definition of the TYPO3 extension DAM (Digital Asset Management).

Digital Asset Management describes a system which manages data such as pictures or documents.

In TYPO3 digital asset management is offered in the form of the extension dam and related extensions. Within this system the saved data can be assigned to meta data such as titles, categories, data types etc via which the data can be very easily grouped or selected.

A major advantage of using DAM is linking of data with website content elements. Without these references TYPO3 creates a copy in the background for every incorporated object (for instance a piece of graphics). If the data object changes it must also be re-assigned within the relevant content element. With references there is no longer a need to create copies and changes instantly affect the content elements.
